It seems the Yankees’ injury bug has returned.
And Luke Voit appears to be the latest victim, as the surprise star first-baseman left Saturday’s slugfest against the Red Sox in London with tightness in the core muscle below his bellybutton, the team announced. Voit was grimacing in pain after legging out his second double of the afternoon in the fifth inning.
The severity of the injury is unclear, and no tests are scheduled, according to MLB.com. Voit will be reevaluated Sunday in the UK.
Voit was on a tear against the Sox, going 4-for-4 with two doubles and one RBI. He was replaced by Gio Urshela. The injury comes just hours after the Yankees revealed Luis Severino had been shut down after experiencing soreness while rehabbing his right lat.
