SAN DIEGO — Madison Bumgarner’s representatives have let teams know that it is going to take five years to get their client.
The expectation is that Bumgarner’s final total will fall below the $118 million that Philadelphia bestowed upon Zack Wheeler. But that Wheeler received five years has encouraged the Bumgarner camp that the lefty should get the same.
The Diamondbacks have quietly looked into the 30-year-old Bumgarner. The Angels — particularly if they don’t land Gerrit Cole or Stephen Strasburg and maybe even if they do — are interested in Bumgarner, as are at least the Twins and Phillies.
