JUPITER, Fla. — John Maine‘s continued to put his recent struggles behind him tonight, allowing just two runs on six hits and a walk in 5 2/3 innings of a 3-2 exhibition win here over the Marlins. Maine, who had been battered for 14 runs in 11 innings over three starts in early March, was upbeat after his final Grapefruit League outing.

“It’s a process of working on things and trying to fix things and getting back on the right path,” he said. “The last two starts, it’s getting better and better. I’m slowly putting the pieces together.”

J.J. Putz faced two batters before being lifted due to a cut fingernail, but the Mets said the reliever should be fine.
