John Maine, who caused alarms to go off Monday when he cited “dead arm” as a reason for his dreadful showing in a 7-1 loss to the Cardinals, said today that there is no reason for concern. Maine lasted just four innings, matching a season low, and giving up seven hits and five runs (only three of them earned) while throwing a mere 81 pitches.

Maine planned to go through his usual day-after throwing regimen and didn’t see the need to have his right arm checked out.

“It’s no big deal,” he said. “It’s just a little fatigue. You’re never going to be your best for all 32 starts.”
