John Maine will return to Port St. Lucie to continue his rehab after Dr. James Andrews confirmed the original diagnosis of weakness in Maine’s right shoulder.

Maine appears no closer to returning to the Mets’ rotation and could miss the rest of the season. He has been on the disabled list since early June, and it’s the same shoulder that Maine had a bone spur shaved down last September.

Maine had sought the second opinion from Andrews in Birmingham, Ala., after experiencing discomfort in the shoulder following a recent 65-pitch simulated game.
