Hey, did you hear? Manny Machado ended up with the Dodgers, not the Yankees. In case, you haven’t heard, then you should know folks are driving them new-fangled automobiles instead of horses and the U.S. got its independence from England.

Shortstop Didi Gregorius, naturally, would have been affected if Machado came to The Bronx and refused to play third. Miguel Andujar would have had a new address undoubtedly as part of the package to Baltimore. But he insisted he paid no attention to the drama that unfolded around Machado.

“Things like rumors, those are things that are not in your hands to control,” Andujar said before the Yankees lost the Subway Series opener 7-5 to the Mets at Yankee Stadium on Friday. “That didn’t change anything as far as me and giving the best I have helping this team and doing my job. Regardless of what the rumors were, they were not going to affect me in any way. So nothing has changed, I still have to go out there and perform and help out the team and give the best I have.”

Andujar had a hot-cold game Friday. He had singles – one of the infield variety – in his first two at bats. But then with two on in the sixth, he struck out, although Neil Walker bailed him out with a two-run double. The following inning, though, with the bases loaded and the Yankees down 6-3, Andujar flied out to right,

The Yankees like what already is in place on their left side, including Andujar at third. And while the Machado scenario is moot for now, there should be a free agency situation unfolding. But that’s for later months. For this season, the Yankees stayed put, showing the confidence in what’s already on hand. Andujar leads all MLB rookies with 41 extra-base hits and 27 doubles.

“At the end of the day, the front office is the architect of this team,” Andujar said. “And they built this team the best way they think possible. To us it’s about doing the best we can, contributing the best we can and try to win. That’s it.”

And manager Aaron Boone, before the game, reiterated the Yankees’ viewpoint of Andujar.

“He’s been a really good player for us, wasn’t handed anything. In fact, he took advantage of an opportunity very early in the season and has run with it,” Boone said. “He’s been an impact player for us. Through all this winter and all these deals, I think it speaks volumes that he’s still here because of how the organization, me, our coaches, our players have valued him. Just how high we think his ceiling is and what kind of player we think he is.”
