PHOENIX — Jerry Manuel’s right-field platoon lasted all of four games in San Francisco.

The Mets manager all but announced an end to the platoon today, saying Angel Pagan will receive the vast majority of the playing time over Jeff Francoeur in right.

“Frenchy is like a relief pitcher right now trying to get back into the starting rotation,” Manuel said before the Mets opened a three-game series against the Diamondbacks.

With the Mets facing three righties in the series, Manuel intends to play the switch-hitting Pagan in right field all three games.

Francoeur entered last night in a 2-for-25 (.080) nosedive while Pagan has been among the team’s most consistent hitters.

“We’ve got to see what this [lineup] looks like for a period of time,” Manuel said, referring to a batting order that includes Pagan in the No. 2 hole.

Manuel admitted it might be “difficult” for Francoeur, who has been a starter his whole career, to be a productive bench player.

“But I do think if somehow you can find favorable matchups it’s an opportunity to keep a good average,” Manuel said. “You can have a decent average by having favorable matchups.”
