Mark Canha’s wife, Marci, wasn’t happy after the Mets outfielder was hit in the ribs by a 98 mph Jordan Hicks pitch during Wednesday’s 11-4 win over the Cardinals.
Moments after Canha was visibly angered by being drilled in the bottom of the third, his wife took to Twitter to share a GIF from the television show “Friends,” that showed Rachel Green (played by Jennifer Aniston) pumping her fists while being held back by Ross Gellar (David Schwimmer).
Mets fans supported Marci’s tweet and expressed their own frustration on Twitter about New York players getting hit by pitches this season—Pete Alonso, Francisco Lindor and Starling Marte all rank in the top 10 in MLB in being hit this season. Canha, meanwhile, tied for the American League lead for getting hit by pitches last year.
At the time, Canha was the second Mets player to get hit by a pitch on Wednesday. Max Scherzer was also plunked.
Mark Canha argues after being hit by a pitch during the third inning of Wednesday’s game against the Cardinals. Robert Sabo/NY POSTMets manager Buck Showalter was visibly furious about the pitch and made his way onto the field, where he spoke with the umpire. Afterward, both benches received warnings from the umpire.
The Mets and Cardinals have a rocky history, after a bench-clearing incident earlier this year in the first series in St. Louis.
The Mets finish their three-game series against the Cardinals on Thursday afternoon before traveling to Colorado for a three-game series against the Rockies, beginning Friday.
