Paul Lo Duca was sad for his former teammates, but proud of the manner in which he and the Marlins scrapped to end the Mets’ season yesterday.
“I feel for the guys over there,” said Lo Duca, who did not play in the Marlins’ 4-2 victory over the Mets. “Injuries and losing [Billy] Wagner were huge for them. I feel bad for the fans, but I don’t feel anything for the front office.”
Lo Duca said it was a privilege to be in the dugout for the final game at Shea Stadium. Before the game, he stood alongside the red carpet that was rolled out for the former Mets players in attendance and greeted Dwight Gooden.
“I had two great years here, I grew up a Met fan; this was something neat for me,” Lo Duca said. “I got to hang out with Doc Gooden today, so that was something cool.”
