The Marlins minor leaguers should stick to hot foots or shaving cream for their pranks.
First baseman Josh Naylor, the Marlins’ No. 2 prospect, injured roommate and Greensboro Grasshoopers teammate Stone Garrett – Miami’s No. 4 prospect – by using a knife in a prank that went terribly wrong, according to the South Florida Sun Sentinel.
Garrett, an outfielder and the team’s first pick in the 2015 draft, was cut on his right thumb and needed three stitches. He has been sent to Miami to get his hand looked at by a specialist and has been placed on the disabled list.
Marlins president of baseball operations Michael Hill didn’t elaborate on what the prank was exactly.
“Naylor has a reputation of being a bit of a prankster, but this one obviously went a little too far,” Hill told the Sun Sentinel. “Obviously, he’s torn up about it. This is a good friend, his roommate. They came into pro ball together, so they’re good friends.
“I don’t think you’ll see Josh Naylor goofing around with knives anymore. Other pranks were just pranks, and nobody got hurt. Unfortunately, this one ended in an injury, which isn’t funny at all.”
