Jefry Marte’s first homer as a Savannah Sand Gnat was an important one.
The 17-year-old third baseman, the Mets No. 6 overall prospect according to Baseball America, hit his first home run of the season to give Low-A Savannah a 6-4 win over Greenville Wednesday night.
Entering Thursday’s games, Marte was hitting .250 with the home run and 12 RBI for Savannah.
