Nationals pitcher Max Scherzer believes it’s only a matter of time before the same can be said for MLB.

“I think we’d be kind of naive to think that there’s not one player in any one of the camps across MLB right now that has not contracted it yet,” Scherzer told reporters Thursday morning, per MASN. “You’ve got to think here that somebody probably has it. It’s just going to matter at what point now. That’s what kind of the experts are projecting here with this outbreak. So, how are we going to handle that? That’s the direction of the medical experts and how MLB wants to handle that. We’re going to obviously follow their guidance.”

After Scherzer spoke, news broke that MLB is following the NBA and NHL by canceling the rest of spring training and delaying the start of the regular season by at least two weeks.

Scherzer’s Nationals played Thursday’s game against the Yankees as scheduled before everything was set to halt at 4 p.m. Thursday.

The NBA and NHL have suspended their seasons and college basketball conference tournaments have been canceled in the wake of concerns over coronavirus spreading.

Jazz center Rudy Gobert became the first NBA player to test positive for the virus Wednesday night before teammate Donovan Mitchell was revealed to have also tested positive.
