Washington Nationals ace Max Scherzer broke his nose during a bunting drill on Tuesday.

A ball deflected off Scherzer’s bat and into his face during pitchers’ batting practice, sending him to the dugout to be checked by the training staff. A CT scan was reportedly negative according to MASN, though it remains to be seen whether he’ll make his scheduled start for one game of a Wednesday doubleheader against the Phillies.

A CT scan was negative, according to MLB.com, but the team had not yet determined whether he would face the Philadelphia Phillies as scheduled in one of the two games of a Wednesday doubleheader.

It’s possible he could be pushed back to start the series finale Thursday. The scheduled Tuesday night game was postponed, so Patrick Corbin, who was due to start Tuesday, likely will pitch one end of the Wednesday twin bill.

Scherzer is 5-5 on the season with a 2.81 ERA.
