Suddenly, the Mets are down one radio announcer.

Tom McCarthy, who called Mets’ games over WFAN the last two seasons, is returning to the Phillies, the club whose games he called on the radio from 2001-’05. McCarthy, who agreed to a five-year deal, this time will work both Phils’ radio and TV.

“The offer the Phillies made, especially the length of time, was something I just couldn’t turn down,” McCarthy said last night after calling the radio broadcast of the Ball State-St. Joseph’s basketball game in Philly. “Both the Mets and WFAN were very good about it, when I told them.”

McCarthy, 39 and a Brick, N.J., native, two years ago replaced Gary Cohen when Cohen became a Mets’ TV play-by-player for SNY.
