The Mets are down 10-0 in the eighth inning, seemingly on their way to losing their second straight to Seattle. But the far more sobering loss is Jim Plummer, who had been with the organization since being a minor-league batboy in 1965. The 56-year-old died of a heart attack this morning at NYU Medical Center. Both teams stood along the baselines in a moment of silence before the anthem.

Plummer had kidney and liver transplants last weekend according to Amazin’s PR czar Jay Horwitz. He had diabetes and lost part of a foot as well. Plummer had been with the big-league club for 32 years, and was the director of corporate sales.
