Terry Collins is heading to Kansas City.

On Wednesday, Cardinals manager Tony LaRussa named Collins, the Mets skipper, to his staff for the 2012 National League All-Star Game. Collins will be one of two coaches for the July 10 contest, which will be played at Kauffman Stadium, the home of the Royals.

The second-year Mets manager was a coach under Felipe Alou at the 1995 All-Star Game in Texas. Collins has been lauded for his job this year in Queens, guiding the Mets to a 33-29 record heading into Wednesday night’s game with the Rays.

Mets third baseman David Wright is currently the leading vote-getter among players at his position in the NL and will start the All-Star Game if he remains in first. Starting pitchers Johan Santana and R.A. Dickey are also possible Mets All-Stars.

Next year’s All-Star Game will be played at Citi Field.
