Mets cut Emaus; call up Turner
The Mets designated second baseman Brad Emaus for assignment before opening a homestand against the Astros on Tuesday night at Citi Field.
Emaus was hitting .167 (6-for-37) with one RBI in 14 games.
He was replaced on the roster by second baseman Justin Turner, who was called up from Triple-A Buffalo and will start Tuesday’s game. Turner was batting .300 (12-for-40) in Buffalo after battling for a roster spot in spring training.
Emaus was selected by the Mets from the Blue Jays in this offseason’s Rule 5 draft and struggled in the field and at the plate after winning the starting job despite an unimpressive spring training. He will be returned to the Toronto organization if he clears waivers.
Emaus started six of the Mets’ first seven games before the Mets gave Daniel Murhpy a few starts at second.
Here’s the rest of the Mets’ lineup for Tuesday’s series opener against the Astros:
1. Jose Reyes – SS
2. Josh Thole – C
3. David Wright – 3B
4. Carlos Beltran – RF
5. Ike Davis – 1B
6. Angel Pagan – CF
7. Scott Hairston – LF
8. Justin Turner – 2B
9. Jonathon Niese – LHP
