The Mets are interested in Joe Panik, The Post’s Mike Puma reports.

Though the team is unlikely to claim the Giants’ second baseman off waivers — which would result in them paying his remaining salary — they would likely become involved if he clears waivers on Friday and is released.

Panik, an All-Star in 2015, has seen his production drop off in the past two years, over which his OPS is a combined .633. However, the 28-year-old could provide depth for the Mets, who are looking for answers at second base after Robinson Cano went down with a torn hamstring last weekend.

Currently, the Mets are going with Jeff McNeil at second with J.D. Davis playing left field.
