The Mets are tweaking their 2021 coaching staff with the addition of a second assistant pitching coach, but otherwise will have familiar faces in the dugout.
On Tuesday the team finalized the staff, announcing the addition of Ricky Meinhold as an assistant pitching coach, joining Jeremy Accardo in that role. Meinhold will also continue as the organization’s minor league pitching coordinator, a job he held last season.
The returnees under manager Luis Rojas include Jeremy Hefner (pitching), Chili Davis (hitting), Gary DiSarcina (third base), Ricky Bones (bullpen) and Tom Slater (assistant hitting). In addition, Brian Schneider will move from quality control coach to major league field coordinator/catching instructor.
Previously, the Mets announced the hiring of bench coach Dave Jauss to replace Hensley Meulens, who was not retained after last season. Tony Tarasco last week was named first base coach, replacing Tony DeFrancesco, who was moved into scouting and player development with the Mets.
