The Mets are focused on trying to upgrade their catching before Monday’s trade deadline.

One catcher they had contemplated, the Angels’ Jason Castro, was traded Sunday to the Padres. There are multiple catchers available in the market, including Boston’s Christian Vazquez.

The Mets view catching as the one position that they could upgrade, not counting pitching. Wilson Ramos has struggled offensively. Tomas Nido has been on the injured list for undisclosed reasons.
