The Mets have gone far over slot to sign Zach Dotson, their 13th round selection in June’s First-Year Player Draft. Dotson, a left-hander from Effingham County High in Georgia, received a bonus of $500,000, according to Baseball America. The maximum bonus allowed after the fifth round, according to Major League Baseball’s slotting guidelines, is $150,000.
Baseball America said Dotson has the potential to have three solid-or-better pitchers. It looks like the Mets agreed with that assessment.
