If the Mets lose Jose Reyes to free agency, they’ll have an eye on adding veteran shortstop/middle infield experience. The team has expressed interest in 33-year-old free agent Jack Wilson, agent Page Odle said yesterday.

The Mets are expected to use youngster Ruben Tejada as Reyes’ replacement, but Wilson would allow them to have a veteran backup at shortstop who also played 45 games at second base in 2011. Wilson could start when Tejada needs a rest or be mixed in more regularly if Tejada struggles.

With Seattle and Atlanta this past season, Wilson hit a combined .243 with no homers in 214 at-bats.

Odle, who said the sides were continuing to talk, said the Mets have not submitted an offer.

“They still have to figure out the Reyes situation first,” Odle said.
