The Mets made it official Thursday, announcing that Sandy Alderson will take over as GM and will be introduced at a press conference Friday at Citi Field.

The 62-year-old will take over for Omar Minaya, who was ousted on Oct. 4. The former A’s and Padres exec also worked for Major League Baseball, most recently in leading its attempt to stop the corruption in the sport throughout Latin America.

Alderson made his name as GM of the A’s from 1983-1997, building a team that reached the World Series three straight times from 1988-90, winning it in 1989.

Alderson beat out former Arizona GM Josh Byrnes, as well as four other candidates for the Mets job. He’ll have to hire a manager to replace Jerry Manuel, but it’s clear Alderson has been brought in to fix the entire organization, which has missed the playoffs each of the past four years.
