The Mets were one of several teams watching free agent pitcher Ben Sheets throw in Louisiana today and were impressed with reports they received on the right-hander.
Sheets, who missed all of last season recovering from elbow surgery after starting the 2008 All-Star game for the Brewers, had his fastball at 91 mph.
In addition to the Mets, the Nationals, Diamondbacks, Cubs, Rangers, Cardinals, Blue Jays, Dodgers and Brewers were reportedly among the teams in attendance, according to MLB.com.
The Toronto Globe and Mail reported this week that Sheets is “all but signed by the Chicago Cubs.”
