JUPITER, Fla. — The Mets’ final roster decision for Opening Day could amount to whether it makes sense to carry Michael Conforto in a bench role.

Team officials have been consistent in saying Conforto, who is rehabbing from left-shoulder surgery, is likely to begin the season on the disabled list. But manager Mickey Callaway revealed Saturday the reason Phillip Evans hasn’t officially claimed the final roster spot is team brass is trying to determine if it might make sense to carry Conforto on the bench.

“At this point, [Conforto] is likely to be on the DL when we break camp,” Callaway said. “I can’t say that for a fact.”

Conforto has received about 40 at-bats this spring and ideally would get another 10-20, based on his past preparation, before he returns. The Mets play their final Grapefruit League game Sunday against the Marlins before facing their Triple-A team a day later at First Data Field. Conforto would get additional at-bats in minor league games this week.

Conforto had been on a May 1 timetable for a return, until recent days, when it became evident he will likely be ready significantly sooner.

Meanwhile, Evans has posted a .838 OPS this spring and shown an ability to play several positions, including catcher.

“What he did in the big leagues last year and the way he swung the bat, he was definitely on the radar,” Callaway said. “He’s taken the radar to a whole other extreme from what I feel. He’s done a great job at every position. He’s really impressed everybody.”

Noah Syndergaard pitched three-plus innings in a minor league game, throwing 50 pitches, and later told to The Post he split the nail on his right middle finger. Syndergaard indicated he was headed to get the nail fixed. According to Callaway, the right-hander has dealt with the nail problem previously in camp.

Syndergaard’s appearance was a tuneup for his Opening Day start against the Cardinals on Thursday at Citi Field.

“It’s nice to put the finishing touches, if there were any, on what was a pretty productive spring training,” Syndergaard said. “I am ready to make it all the way through, healthy and feeling really good and ready for the 2018 season.”

Yoenis Cespedes, Kevin Plawecki and Travis d’Arnaud all took at-bats on the minor league side.

Todd Frazier has raised his spring training batting average by more than 100 points in recent days. He was 3-for-4 on Saturday in the Mets’ 8-7 exhibition loss to the Cardinals and is hitting .250 in the exhibition season.

Jose Reyes went 0-for-4 as the designated hitter and is batting .174 in spring training.

Wilmer Flores started the game in right field. Earlier in the week he received a start in left field as the Mets’ attempt to get his bat in the lineup as much as possible. Flores has appeared relatively comfortable in the outfield.

The Mets conclude their Grapefruit League schedule with Steven Matz on the mound against the Marlins in Port St. Lucie.
