Mets prospect Fernando Martinez was named MVP of the Carribean Series as a member of the winning Dominican Republic team.

Martinez hit .348 with two homers and four RBIs in six games for his 5-1 club.

“This is very emotional,” Martinez said, according to MLB.com. “To be able to contribute to the Dominican Republic team is something you dream about as a child. This is a wonderful feeling. I don’t have the words.”

The 21-year-old has expressed concern that he does not fit into the Mets plans and that his best chance to make the major leagues could be with a different organization. The Mets acquired outfielders Jason Bay and Gary Matthews Jr. this offseason and Jeff Francoeur during last season.

“Maybe I make it to the big leagues with the Mets or maybe another team, but I know I can do it,” Martinez said

He hit .176 in 29 games for the Mets last year before an injury hindered his season. It’s likely he will begin this season with Triple-A Buffalo.

Mets pitcher Nelson Figueroa and outfield prospect Jesus Feliciano were named to the all-tournament team.
