Mets fans dreamed of Max Scherzer pitching in these very moments.

It finally came, but he was booed off the mound as it reached its painful conclusion.

Scherzer got the start for Game 1 of the Mets’ wild-card series against the Padres. He was pulled after just 4 2/3 innings, however, allowing seven earned runs in a disastrous outing.

He surrendered four home runs, to Josh Bell, Trevor Grisham, Jurickson Profar and Manny Machado.

Bell tagged Scherzer for a two-run blast in the first inning, before Grisham’s solo shot extended the deficit to 3-0 in the second. Profar’s three-run blast in the fifth inning made it 6-0, and Machado soon made it 7-0 not long after that.

Scherzer was replaced by Trevor May, with the Mets trailing 7-0 at the time.

The outing marked the most earned runs Scherzer has allowed in his postseason career. His previous high was six, in a 2011 ALCS loss while pitching for the Tigers.
