Michael Conforto could be at Citi Field within a week.

The Mets outfielder is continuing his rehab at extended spring training in Port St. Lucie, Fla., but general manager Sandy Alderson indicated Thursday that team brass will decide within a few days on Conforto’s next step.

With extended spring training set to conclude Sunday, Conforto could return to the Mets or begin a minor-league rehab assignment.

But since the minor-league season does not begin until April 5, there is a small window of potential inactivity for Conforto. If he rejoined the Mets, he would be eligible for removal from the disabled list Wednesday.

“When the teams break from Florida, we will have to make a decision where he goes, and that is a decision we will make over the next couple of days,” Alderson said.

Conforto had surgery last September to repair the posterior capsule in his left shoulder after suffering a dislocation. Initially, Alderson put the timetable for Conforto’s return at May 1, but it became evident in the final weeks of spring training that the player was ahead of schedule. Team officials even broached the idea of carrying Conforto on the Opening Day roster as a bench player until he was ready to contribute full time.
