Luis Rojas is officially returning as Mets manager.

After previously stating he expected Rojas would be back, team president Sandy Alderson on Monday announced the manager’s return, even as the organization searches for a general manager.

Alderson, who will head baseball operations, said none of the roughly six GM candidates he’s interviewed were against the idea of Rojas returning for a second season.

“To a person they agreed under the circumstances that bringing Louie back as manager was the right thing to do,” Alderson said. “It’s not as if this is a unilateral decision on my part or the existing organization. We’ve actually talked through this with the candidates to be the GM and generally got agreement that in this particular case that was the right thing to do. Not that they were going to make the decision for us, but the issue has been broached and I’m comfortable this isn’t a shotgun marriage that will occur.”

Rojas led the Mets to a 26-34 record in the pandemic shortened season.

“I’m thrilled to be the manager under the leadership of Sandy and try to win a World Series,” Rojas said. “We look forward to putting in the work and making our fans proud.”

Alderson said decisions will be reached over the next few weeks over the coaches on Rojas’ staff.

Michael Conforto’s contract situation hasn’t been broached since the season concluded, according to Alderson. The outfielder, who is represented by Scott Boras, will be entering his final season before free agency.

“At some point I’m sure we will broach that topic and take their temperature and see where things stand,” Alderson said. “But right now those conversations have not taken place.”

Alderson has spoken to Tim Tebow about 2021 and said he has encouraged the former Heisman Trophy winner to continue his quest to reach the major leagues with the Mets. The 33-year-old Tebow will be eligible for next month’s Rule 5 draft, but it’s unlikely a team would select him given that it would require placing him on the 40-man roster.

“I think Tim is committed to coming back and I think we are committed to giving him an opportunity to do that and we’ll see where it goes,” Alderson said. “This is not a quest without end. At some point it will culminate, but I think that will come at a time Tim and the organization come to some agreement about where he is and what his potential is.”
