INSIDE THE MATCHUPS
NATIONALS: After winning his first two decisions of the month, Gonzalez has lost his last two, including a 9-5 loss to the Mets (his first start against the Amazin’s) in which he allowed six runs on six hits over 31⁄2 innings. For the month, the left-hander is 2-2 with a 5.75 ERA and 21 strikeouts.
METS: Since the All-Star break, Dickey has cooled down quite a bit. The knuckleballer pitched one inning of relief in Saturday’s 8-5 loss to the Dodgers and gave up a two-run home run to Juan Uribe. Dickey’s last start, however, was a July 19 victory over the Nationals in which he allowed four runs (three earned) on 10 hits over 71⁄2 innings. In three starts this month, Dickey is 1-0 with a 6.05 ERA. He was 5-0 with a 0.93 ERA in June.
