Steve Cohen has nearly landed his catcher.

The Mets are “on the doorstep” of signing James McCann to a four-year deal in the range of $40 million, The Post’s Joel Sherman confirmed Saturday. McCann later agreed to a contract with the Mets

McCann would mark the second major league signing of the Cohen era, strengthening the Mets behind the plate while leaving money to spend elsewhere on the free agent market.

J.T. Realmuto was the biggest name available at the position, but the 30-year-old McCann is coming off two seasons with the White Sox in which he hit .276 with an .808 OPS. He was an All-Star in 2019 and also brings a strong defensive presence, recording a plus-5 in runs saved last season — the fourth-best mark in the majors.
