It is an admittedly small sample size, but the three Mets pitching prospects in the Hawaiian Winter League – Scott Shaw, Roy Merritt and Josh Stinson – have all gotten off to solid starts in the HWL.
Through three games (all in relief), Merritt has allowed two runs on six hits in 6.1 innings, striking out eight and walking two. Both Stinson and Shaw have appeared in two games, with each starting one. Stinson has allowed three runs (one earned) on three hits in 6.1 innings, striking out three, walking two and hitting a batter, while Shaw has allowed four runs (one earned) in 6.2 innings, striking out seven, walking two and hitting a surprising three batters.
