With the possibility of a minor league season all but evaporated, the Mets are among the teams releasing players from their organization, according to an industry source.

It’s unclear how many minor leaguers the Mets plan to release, but the cuts come as teams are looking to reduce and eliminate costs amid the prospect of a shortened major league season following the COVID-19 outbreak.

Earlier this week the A’s announced they will stop paying minor leaguers their $400 weekly stipend beyond May 31. The Nationals and Brewers are other teams reportedly releasing minor leaguers.

The Mets last month implemented pay cuts for employees throughout the organization that will go into effect on June 1.
