The Mets are returning to a hitting coach tandem that worked.

Eric Chavez is staying with the organization but moving back from bench coach to hitting coach, The Post confirmed Friday. Chavez and returning hitting coach Jeremy Barnes will tag-team the role.

Chavez was highly valued under the previous regime and rose from hitting coach to Buck Showalter’s bench coach, a possible step toward Chavez becoming an eventual manager.

But after a poor Mets season in 2023, David Stearns entered as president of baseball operations, Showalter was fired and Chavez’s future was unclear.

He had interviewed for the Yankees’ hitting coach position that eventually went to James Rowson.

Thus the Mets have reassembled the hitting-minded duo — Chavez and Barnes — who led the club’s offense during the 101-win 2022 season.

The status of Eric Hinske, who was last season’s assistant hitting coach, is unclear.

The only other known member of new manager Carlos Mendoza’s staff is returning pitching coach Jeremy Hefner, who has served in the role through several regimes since 2020.

SNY first reported that Chavez and Barnes would be co-hitting coaches.
