The best-case timeline for Ronny Mauricio’s return to the Mets is September.
Mauricio, the team announced Tuesday, underwent surgery to repair the torn anterior cruciate ligament in his right knee that he sustained last month playing in the Dominican Winter League.
The procedure was performed Monday at the Hospital for Special Surgery in New York by Dr. David Altchek.

Mauricio, 22, was attempting to steal second base for Licey in the Dominican Republic on Dec. 10 when he tore the ACL.
The Mets viewed Mauricio as a possibility to compete for the starting third base job in spring training, with Brett Baty.
With Mauricio sidelined, team brass could look toward an external option such as Gio Urshela or Justin Turner who could play the position at least on a part-time basis.
