If you’ve got no shot at a banner season, maybe the next best thing is a day.
The Mets yesterday announced plans to revive Banner Day — a longtime popular event that was discontinued in 1997 — for their May 27 game against the Padres at Citi Field.
The event will be part of the Mets’ 50th anniversary celebration. Guest judges and prizes will be announced later. The Mets held their first Banner Day in 1963.
“We are confident that Mets fans will be appropriate in their creative expressions,” the team said in a statement. “As this is intended to be a fun and family-oriented event, we will reserve the right to refuse any profane or mean-spirited banner.”
