The Mets’ first “spring” workouts are actually less than a week away.
Itching to get a read on how much their injured players have progressed since last season, the team will hold a three-day voluntary mini-camp beginning Monday in Port. St. Lucie, Fla.
Johan Santana, Jose Reyes, Oliver Perez and John Maine are among the prime candidates to attend, but club spokesman Jay Horwitz said the Mets probably won’t know which players are coming until later this week.
Manager Jerry Manuel will convene with his full coaching staff for the mini-camp and general manager Omar Minaya is also scheduled to attend the workouts.
Reporting date for pitchers and catchers is Feb. 18, and the rest of the team is scheduled to report seven days later.
