PORT ST. LUCIE — As Carlos Mendoza left his postgame news conference Sunday, he announced the Mets have a new player in the clubhouse.
Sean Manaea, the manager said, had cut his hair.
Mendoza was not kidding: The Mets lefty looks like a new man.
Manaea had grown out his mane for nearly four years, since May 2020, and the dark, bouncy hair would flop around during his windup.
He decided recently without much thought — “pretty impulsive,” he said — that he was ready for a new look.
