CINCINNATI — The New York Mets optioned catcher Rob Johnson to Triple-A Buffalo on Wednesday to make room on the roster for catcher Kelly Shoppach, acquired Tuesday in a trade with Boston.
Johnson has hit .250 with four RBIs in 52 at bats over 17 games in two stints with the Mets this season.
Shoppach, picked up for a player to be named, joined the Mets in Cincinnati on Wednesday.
