Sorry Rutgers. Seems there will be a football season …

Amazin’, no? The Mets still in the playoff hunt? Chances are slim, there is very little wiggle room for setbacks, but second-place Miami still can be caught or the Mets can slip in the back door with a wild card. Braves invade Queens this weekend. Mets throw David Peterson (4-2, 4.17 ERA) Saturday.

Early success has given way to a couple of bad starts. He has allowed seven runs over his past seven innings and the Braves’ heavy hitting lineup may exacerbate Peterson’s problems while swelling the recent run totals. Atlanta’s 22-year-old rookie Ian Anderson (3-0, 1.64 ERA) has been a pleasant surprise. He one-hit the Nationals for seven innings in his last start, fanning nine. Though the Mets are hungry for wins, the Braves are looking to wrap up the division title sooner rather than later. 20 units on Atlanta.

Zach Plesac pitched 7 ²/₃ innings, Brad Hand closed the door in the ninth and the Indians edged the Tigers 1-0. Back-to-back wins have us at -756 charboneaus.
