For those of you wondering why Omar Minaya didn’t pursue Ben Sheets this offseason, I now have an answer: Sheets appears to need elbow surgery that would cause him to miss most, if not all, of the 2009 season. It seems the Texas Rangers had a two-year deal in place with the All-Star right-hander last week but it fell apart when his physical revealed a torn flexor tendon. Ouch.
