Brodie Van Wagenen has emerged as a significant favorite to become the Mets’ next head of baseball operations.
The co-head of CAA’s baseball division, Van Wagenen has become the focal point of the team’s search, an industry source confirmed Friday, as the Mets move to fill the vacancy by next week. The sides have begun contract negotiations, but any announcement by the team won’t come before the World Series concludes.
Chaim Bloom, the Rays’ senior VP of baseball operations, is the other finalist for the job and remains a candidate, and hasn’t been completely eliminated from consideration.
Doug Melvin was eliminated from contention on Thursday.
