Vidal Bruján was selected from Triple-A Syracuse and will likely share time at the position with Bo Bichette, according to manager Carlos Mendoza.
Bichette was the starter at shortstop with Brett Baty at third base for Sunday’s series finale against the Angels.
Mauricio, who will receive imaging on the thumb Monday, is facing a return to play timeline of six to eight weeks.

It’s the latest misfortune for the 25-year-old Mauricio, who missed the 2024 season after tearing the anterior cruciate ligament in his right knee while playing winter ball and undergoing multiple surgeries.
Bichette, a former shortstop, has just begun playing third base this season.
“Also taking into account the workload with Bo, he’s in a really good place and very comfortable at third base now,” Mendoza said. “The good thing is he continues to tell us, ‘Whatever the team needs, I am going to continue to show up and do my part.’ So, it’s fluid and we’ll go from there.”

Bruján, 28, has previous major league experience with the Rays, Marlins, White Sox, Orioles and Braves.
Mauricio joined Lindor, Jorge Polanco, Luis Robert Jr. and Jared Young among Mets position players on the injured list.
Juan Soto also missed nearly three weeks last month with a right calf strain.
“I don’t think anybody anticipated anything like that,” Mendoza said of the bloated injured list. “You are going to face adversity, but to get hit with so many position players, especially, I don’t think you could prepare for something like this. But people need to step up.”
