Mike Tauchman is excited about his future with the Giants after an impressive debut — just one day after the struggling Yankees traded him to San Francisco.

Tauchman, batting seventh, went 3-for-4 in the Giants’ 7-3 win over the Rockies on Wednesday, including a single in his first at-bat. Tauchman also performed well in the outfield with a running catch at the wall.

Following his debut win with the Giants, Tauchman raved about the culture in San Francisco. He also expressed his excitement for more playing time after a sporadic tenure with Yankees. Tauchman had 16 at-bats and three starts in the first 22 games of the season as the odd man out in the Yankees outfield.

“I was fortunate with the opportunity to play [with the Yankees] and I’m very fortunate with this opportunity,” he said while discussing the trade. “I’ve been here for a day and every single interaction I’ve had with teammates and staff from top down … it’s not a surprise to see why this franchise has had so much success… The fact I’m going to get the opportunity to contribute to that is exciting.”

Tauchman, while reflecting on the trade — which sent left-hander Wandy Peralta and a player to be named later to New York — said he was “shocked” when Yankees manager Aaron Boone delivered the news following batting practice for Tuesday’s game in Baltimore.

“I know my name had come up a few different times this offseason and throughout spring training, but you never expect to get traded, especially early in the season,” he said. “I spent some time there and I have a lot of relationships there [in New York].”

Once the “initial shock of the trade wore off,” his excitement kicked in.

“This team is playing real good baseball at a high level in a tough division,” he said of  the NL West-contending Giants.
