WASHINGTON — Omar Minaya veered off into fantasy land here today.

Incredibly, the Mets’ GM said he doesn’t expect to be a seller before the July 31 non-waivers trade deadline because he still thinks his sub-.500 team has a chance at the NL wild card.

The Mets were 44-49 and fading rapidly going into tonight’s game with the Nationals, standing a season-high 10 games behind the Phillies in the East and 6 1/2 games out in the wild-card race. But Minaya doesn’t consider the wild-card deficit insurmountable, even though the Mets had been shut out five times this month through Tuesday, because the club is hopeful of getting several key pieces back by mid-August.

With Jose Reyes, John Maine and Carlos Delgado seemingly on track to return in the next month, Minaya said he plans to be in pursuit of talent before the deadline — not eager to dump his own.

“Right now we do not envision [being a seller],” Minaya said. “If we’re 6 ½ [back] in the wild card with a couple of teams in front of us, we are still kind of trying to find out how we can improve this team, if we can improve it through trades.”
