After another stellar outing for Scranton/Wilkes Barre, Sergio Mitre may soon be finding his way to the Bronx to fill the injured Chien-Ming Wang’s spot in the rotation. Although it was against the Mets Triple-A affiliate, the incredibly weak-hitting Buffalo Bisons, Mitre was dominant again for SWB Sunday. He scattered six hits over eight scoreless innings, striking out five and walking none. He threw 82 pitches, with an incredible 64 of them for strikes. That works out to him throwing 78 percent of his pitches for strikes.

Sunday’s outing was Mitre’s best in his now seven starts for the Yankees’ top affiliate, but his overall numbers have been outstanding. He’s now 3-1 with a 2.40 ERA and 1.00 WHIP in 45 innings. He’s given up 40 hits, striking out 35 and walking five.

The most impressive thing about Mitre’s performance is he is less than a year removed from Tommy John surgery, which he had July 15 of last season. Mitre also is under the steroid and PED cloud, as he received a 50-game suspension earlier this year for testing positive for androstendione, which he said appeared without his knowledge in a nutritional supplement he bought at GNC.
