While Alex Rodriguez is sure to face a media storm when he reports to spring training, he will not face any discipline from Major League Baseball.

Rodriguez, according to a Sports Illustrated report released yesterday, tested positive for steroids in his 2003, as part of tests that were conducted to determine if random drug testing was necessary for the following season.

MLB released a statement saying Rodriguez can’t be disciplined, regardless of the test results.

“We are disturbed by the allegations contained in the Sports Illustrated news story,” the statement said. “Because the survey testing that took place in 2003 was intended to be non-disciplinary and anonymous, we can not make any comment on the accuracy of this report as it pertains to the player named.”

In a statement, the MLB Players’ Union refused to confirm or deny the SI story.

“Information and documents relating to the results of the 2003 MLB testing program are both confidential and under seal by court orders,” the statement said.
