The Players Association approved a program Friday to provide supplemental financial support to non-roster players with previous major league service who were in camp March 13, when MLB suspended the season due to the coronavirus pandemic.

Players Association executive director Tony Clark was looking for a way to offer aid to players who have been union dues-payers and were not covered by the agreement between MLB and the Players Association that calls for MLB to pay $170 million through May to 40-man roster players.

The eight-person union executive subcommittee, which includes current Yankee James Paxton, former Yankee Andrew Miller and former Met Daniel Murphy, agreed Friday to offer the assistance to the 371 players who fell into the category of still in a major league camp March 13 and having had MLB service time, even if it was as little as one day, as is the case of the Yankees’ Domingo Acevedo.

None of the players have to accept the money. Those who do have to apply through the union and will receive a payout in two installments. The union looks at this as additional funds beyond the $400 a week that MLB has agreed to pay minor leaguers through May.

A player with six-plus years of service who falls into the categories, such as Eduardo Nunez, who was in Mets camp, and Chris Iannetta, who was in Yankees camp, are eligible for $50,000. Players with 3-5 years of service can get $25,000, 2-3 years is $15,000, 1-2 years is $7,500 and 0-1 year of service is $5,000.

Besides Nunez, those who were in Mets camp as of March 13 and are eligible include Matt Adams, Stephen Nogosek, Jarrett Parker, Pedro Payano, Erasmo Ramirez, Yefry Ramirez, René Rivera, Nick Rumbelow, Chasen Shreve and Rob Whalen.

Besides Acevedo and Iannetta, those who were in Yankees camp as of March 13 and are eligible include Luis Avilan, Chad Bettis, Zack Granite, David Hale, Rosell Herrera, Erik Kratz, Tyler Lyons, Josh Thole, Nick Tropeano and Tony Zych.
