Juan Soto is a Padre.

After weeks of speculation as to where the 23-year-old superstar would land with his Nationals future in doubt, Soto was dealt to San Diego in a blockbuster deal.

Going with the slugging outfielder to the Padres is first baseman Josh Bell, whose future was also up for debate in recent weeks. The Nationals will receive a package of players including first baseman Luke Voit, pitcher MacKenzie Gore, outfielder Robert Hassell III, shortstop C.J. Abrams, outfielder James Wood and righty Jarlin Susana.

San Diego later traded first baseman Eric Hosmer to the Red Sox to make room in the lineup for Bell.

Per Elias Sports, Soto’s early career brilliance makes his trade incredibly unique: he’s the first player under 23 to be traded midseason the same year as making an All-Star game, as well as the first to make multiple All-Star games and change teams before turning 24.

The Padres weren’t done with the history-making deal, adding utilityman Brandon Drury later in the afternoon and adding to an already fearsome lineup that includes Fernando Tatis Jr., Jake Cronenworth and Manny Machado.

Mets leave two question marks unaddressed after adding depth at trade deadline

By Mike Puma

WASHINGTON — After addressing the left-handed side of their designated hitter situation late last month the Mets completed the equation Tuesday before shifting to the bullpen.

They acquired veteran right-handed hitter Darin Ruf from the Giants in a trade for J.D. Davis and minor league pitchers Thomas Szapucki, Carson Seymour and Nick Zwack. In a separate trade, the Mets acquired right-handed reliever Mychal Givens from the Cubs for minor league right-hander Saul Gonzalez.

The moves bolstered the Mets’ depth, but catcher and left-handed relief went unaddressed, leaving question marks in both spots. In the days and weeks before the trade deadline, the Mets acquired left-handed hitters Daniel Vogelbach and Tyler Naquin from the Pirates and Reds, respectively.

The 36-year-old Ruf owns an .886 OPS against lefties and will provide a sturdier presence in the right-handed DH spot than Davis, who struggled in the role this season.

Why Yankees traded Jordan Montgomery to Cardinals for Harrison Bader

By Greg Joyce

A day after trading for Frankie Montas to bolster their rotation, the Yankees subtracted one of their most consistent starters just before the trade deadline.

The Yankees sent lefty Jordan Montgomery to the Cardinals on Tuesday in exchange for outfielder Harrison Bader and a player to be named later or cash considerations.

Bader is currently on the injured list with plantar fasciitis and in a walking boot. That could delay his Yankees debut until September, general manager Brian Cashman said. When Bader is available, the Yankees will get a strong defensive center fielder and speed threat who is also under contract through next season.

But it came at the cost of Montgomery, the homegrown pitcher who was visibly emotional and still in shock about an hour after the trade went down.

Several big names stay put at the deadline

By Michael Blinn

The MLB trade deadline came and went and the headlines went to Juan Soto and the other big moves made on the day.

Also deserving some notoriety, though, are the players who didn't get traded, despite their positions in the MLB rumor mill.

The Cubs didn't deal the likes of Willson Contreras or Ian Happ.

The Red Sox -- who curiously played the part of buyer and seller -- hung on to J.D. Martinez and Nathan Eovaldi.

Giants pitcher Carlos Rodon and Marlins hauler Pablo Lopez are staying put, despite plenty of smoke surrounding their situations late in the day.

Braves land Raisel Iglesias at the buzzer

By Michael Blinn

The Atlanta Braves beat the buzzer and got themselves a reliever.

Raisel Iglesias is headed to The ATL, with the Angels receiving Jesse Chavez and Tucker Davidson, according to multiple reports.

Iglesias signed a four-year, $58 million contract last offseason.

Whit Merrifield traded to Toronto in awkward turn of events

By Michael Blinn

Whit Merrifield will have to revisit his personal vaccination stance.

The Royals traded the speedster -- who sat out their recent trip to Toronto due to not being vaccinated against COVID-19 -- the Blue Jays at the deadline.

“That’s the only reason that I would think about getting it at this point, is to go to Canada,” Merrifield said on July 13. “That might change down the road. Something happens and I happen to get on a team that has a chance to go play in Canada in the postseason, maybe that changes.”

The second baseman later apologized for the somewhat prescient comments after a firestorm of criticism.

Noah Syndergaard on the way to Philly

By Michael Blinn

Noah Syndergaard will not be making his scheduled start for the Angels on Tuesday night.

Instead, Thor will be on his way to Philadelphia to give the Phillies rotation a much-needed boost.

The 29-year-old, on a one-year deal in Los Angeles, was one of the top remaining arms on the trade market as the 6 p.m. deadline neared, and seemed to understand he was going to be on the move. Earlier in the afternoon, he tweeted a GIF of "Pulp Fiction's Vincent Vega waiting around.

Los Angeles will get a pair of prospects in the deal, including Mickey Moniak.

The trade reunited Syndergaard with his former Mets teammate Zack Wheeler.

Twins continue to build up their pitching

By Michael Blinn

Add Michael Fulmer to the new-look Twins pitching corps.

Minnesota picked up the 2016 Rookie of the Year from the Tigers in the waning minutes of the MLB Trade Deadline on Tuesday, with the return not yet known.

Fulmer has a 2.77 ERA and 38 strikeouts in 39 innings pitched this season, and attracted attention from the Blue Jays among others.

He's the third arm brought in by Minnesota on the day, joining reliever Jorge Lopez and starter Tyler Mahle.

Yankees still trying to make moves

By Michael Blinn

The Yankees don't seem to be done yet, with The Post's Jon Heyman and Joel Sherman reporting the team is working to pry Pablo Lopez out of Miami.

As @JonHeyman mentioned, the Yankees are among the teams who have been trying to obtain Pablo Lopez from the Marlins.

— Joel Sherman (@Joelsherman1) August 2, 2022

The Dodgers were among the teams interested in Lopez's services, but dropped out of the running, per Mark Feinsand.

Lopez would be both an immediate boost to a rotation dealing with injuries (and just added Frankie Montas to the mix), as well as a long-term arm to build with. Over the past two-plus seasons, the 26-year-old has put together a 3.33 ERA, 48.1% grounder rate, 25.7% strikeout rate, and 6.9% walk rate over 278 2/3 innings.

San Diego keeps on making trades

By Michael Blinn

San Diego's day didn't end with the trade deadline's biggest prize. The Padres also added utlityman Brandon Drury in a swap with the Reds.

Drury's days in Cincy appeared numbered as the team didn't want to offer him an extension despite being in the midst of his best career as a pro -- one which began on a minor league deal in March.

The 29-year-old has 20 home runs and a .275/.336/.523 slash line over 381 plate appearances this season.

Drury is the latest addition to San Diego, which also brought in sluggers Juan Soto and Josh Bell, as well as deliver Josh Hader.

While the team isn't shying away from big-time acquisitions, the front office has also made the money work, dealing away Eric Hosmer and looking to move Wil Myers before the 6 p.m. deadline hits.

Tyler Mahle to the Twins

By Michael Blinn

Righthander Tyler Mahle is headed to Minnesota.

He didn't come cheaply: the Twins sent prospects Spencer Steer, Christian Encarncion-Strand, and Steven Hajjar to the Reds for their trouble.

Mahle is the second arm Minnesota picked up on Tuesday. Hours earlier, the Twins added closer Jorge Lopez from the Orioles.

Mets add Darin Ruf, miss out on David Robertson

By Michael Blinn

The Mets added first baseman Darin Ruf in a deal with the San Francisco Giants, sending JD Davis and prospects Nick Zwack, Carson Seymour and Thomas Szapucki for Darin Ruf back in return.

One move the Mets will not get to make, however, is for reliever David Robertson: the Cubs sent the former Yankees arm to the rival Phillies on Tuesday afternoon, The Post's Jon Heyman confirmed.

Luke Voit the final piece of Juan Soto megadeal

By Michael Blinn

Former Yankees slugger Luke Voit is headed to DC as part of the Juan Soto deal, according to multiple reports.

Finalized, the massive -- and unique -- trade sees Soto headed to San Diego with first baseman Josh Bell with the Nationals adding Voit to a haul including pitcher MacKenzie Gore, outfielder Robert Hassell III, shortstop C.J. Abrams, outfielder James Wood and righty Jarlin Susana.

Voit's 13 homers make him the leader on the reconfigured Nationals roster.
