Mets agree to deal with reliever Michael Tonkin

The Mets and reliever Michael Tonkin have agreed to a deal, per MLB.com's Mark Feinsand.

The 34-year-old right-hander made 45 appearances (80 innings) with the Braves last year, posting a 4.28 ERA with 75 strikeouts.

Tonkin previously pitched with the Twins from 2013-17 before he found himself out of the majors, bouncing around the minors, Japan, Mexico and the Atlantic League for five years.

Over six MLB seasons, the veteran has a 4.37 ERA over 226 1/3 innings.

Astros add depth behind the plate

The Astros have added catcher Victor Caratini on a deal Tuesday night, according to The Athletic.

The contract is for two years MLB insider Robert Murray reported.

The seven-year veteran has mostly spent time as the backup backstop during his career, playing the last two years in Milwaukee.

Last year with the Brewers, Caratini, 30, hit .259/.327/.383 with seven homers and 25 RBIs.

The move, per The Athletic, likely spells the end of catcher Martin Maldonado's tenure in Houston.

Braves trade away pitcher Marco Gonzales — days after acquiring him

Things are finally starting to heat up at the Winter Meetings as the Pirates added left-handed starter Marco Gonzales in a trade with the Braves, The Post’s Jon Heyman confirmed.

The Pirates will send cash considerations and a player to be named later as part of the deal, according to ESPN’s Jeff Passan.

The move comes just days after the Braves had acquired Gonzales in a trade with the Mariners.

While Gonzales is not a massive upgrade for the Pirates, he does give the starting rotation some more major league experience and depth for next season.

The southpaw spent seven with the Mariners and had a 4.08 ERA over 852 1/3 innings from 2017-22.

Last season, Gonzales suffered a forearm strain in May and was limited to 50 innings over 10 starts.

Yankees add outfielder in surprise trade with Red Sox

NASHVILLE, Tenn. — The Yankees have a new outfielder, but he comes from the Red Sox instead of the Padres.

Brian Cashman swung a trade on Tuesday night, acquiring Alex Verdugo from the Red Sox in exchange for reliever Greg Weissert and minor league pitchers Richard Fitts and Nicholas Judice.

While the Yankees had been in talks with the Padres for superstar outfielder Juan Soto, Verdugo fills one of their open outfield spots and also adds a left-handed bat to the lineup.

The Blue Jays really want Shohei Ohtani on their team next year, and team owner Rogers Communications is doing all it can to make that a reality, per the Toronto Sun.

The two-way superstar's highly publicized free agency has made tons of headlines this offseason and at MLB's Winter Meetings, and a source told the Sun that his bid to land a record contract has resembled something akin to a popular reality series.

“Now it feels a little bit like the show "The Bachelor," waiting to see if we get picked,” a source told the outlet.

Ohtani, the 2023 American League MVP, has reportedly suitors in the Dodgers and Cubs, but per the Sun, the two-way superstar does like the city of Toronto.

Erick Fedde heading to White Sox after Mets had interest

Erick Fedde is coming back stateside, but not to New York.

The right-hander, who dominated in the KBO last year, has agreed to a two-year, $15 million deal with the White Sox, ESPN's Jeff Passan reported.

According to The Post's Jon Heyman, the Mets were among the teams interested in Fedde, who revived his career when he went 20-6 with a 2.00 ERA in 30 starts last season for the NC Dinos.

Fedde, 30, spent six years with the Nationals (2017-22) and held a 21-33 record with a 5.41 ERA and 352 strikeouts.

Guardians land top pick in 2024 MLB Draft

The order is now set for the 2024 MLB Draft, and there is a surprise team that will pick No. 1 overall.

The Cleveland Guardians, who came in with just a 2 percent chance to win the draft lottery, landed the top spot.

It's the first time in the history of the franchise that it'll pick No. 1.

The Mets, who would've had the No. 9 pick but over exceeded the luxury tax, will now pick 19th.

The Yankees will pick 25th.

Would Cubs have to include Christopher Morel in a Tyler Glasnow trade?

The Cubs have held talks with the Rays about starting pitcher Tyler Glasnow, and Christopher Morel's name has come up in discussions, according to USA Today.

The 24-year-old Morel, who split his time between DH, the outfield and second base last season with a few appearances at third base and shortstop, slashed .247/.313/.508 with 26 home runs and 70 RBIs last season.

Glasnow, 30, had a 3.53 ERA with 162 strikeouts in 120 innings last season for the Rays, who have the right-hander under contract for one more season.

Alex Cora spoke to Aaron Boone, thinks Yankees have big move coming

Based on his conversation with Aaron Boone, Alex Cora thinks the Yankees are on the verge of a major move.

Rays re-sign Chris Devenski

The Rays have re-signed right-hander Chris Devenski to a one-year contract, The Post's Jon Heyman confirmed.

Devenski, 33, signed with the Rays in August after getting released by the Angels and finished the season strong, giving up two earned runs in 8 ⅔ innings. He also had a scoreless two-inning appearance against Texas in the wild-card round.

Devenski was part of the infamous Astros team that was found to have cheated en route to winning the 2017 World Series.

He was an All-Star that year, striking out 100 with a 2.68 ERA in 62 games.

Mets sign infielder Jose Iglesias

The Mets announced they signed veteran infielder Jose Iglesias to a minor league contract, which includes an invitation to spring training.

Iglesias, 33, last played in the majors in 2022 for the Rockies, hitting .292 in 118 games.

He spent parts of last season playing in the minors for the Padres organization.

Iglesias was an All-Star with the Tigers in 2015.

Rangers sign Kirby Yates

The World Series champions are adding a former All-Star to their bullpen.

The Rangers are signing right-hander Kirby Yates to a one-year contract, according to multiple reports.

Yates, who turns 37 in March, had a 3.28 ERA with 80 strikeouts in 60 ⅓ innings across 61 appearances for the Braves last season.

His best years came with the Padres in 2018 and '19. He had a 2.14 ERA in 65 games in 2018 and was an All-Star in 2019 when he led the league with 41 saves, pitching to a 1.19 ERA with 101 strikeouts in 60 games.
